Thousands gathered this weekend in Maryland to honor fallen firefighters at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Missoula’s Trenton Johnson was one of those remembered for his sacrifice. The 19-year-old died when he was hit by a falling tree in the early days of the 2017 fire season in Montana.

He was working a fire near Seeley Lake at the time.

Trenton is remembered by friends and family as witty and funny, smart and athletic. 2017 was his first summer fighting wildfires.

Trenton’s name, along with more than 100 others, is now engraved on a bronze plaque.

The memorial weekend in Maryland honors those firefighters killed in the line of duty and brings their families together for support and remembrance.
