On the first day of National Substance Abuse Prevention Month, the Department of Justice announced it is awarding almost $320 million to combat the opioid crisis in America.
The funding will directly help those most impacted by the deadliest drug crisis in American history, including crime victims, children, families, and first responders.
Various agencies throughout Montana were awarded a total of almost $5 million.
More specifically:
- The Montana Department of Corrections, Crime Control Bureau was granted $1,300,000
- Safe Care, L-L-C: $441,530
- The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes: $750,000
- Montana Supreme Court O-C-A: $492,856
- The Judiciary Court of Montana: $549,986
- Butte-Silver Bow County drug treatment courts: $718,138
- Judiciary Courts of the State of Montana: $600,000
In 2017, more than 72,000 Americans lost their lives to drug overdoses, an increase from the 64,000 in 2016, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
