HELENA – NorthWestern Energy is temporarily closing public access across Hauser Dam north of Helena next week.

The closure begins at midnight on Sunday, September 9 and will continue until 6 p.m. on Friday, September 14.

According to NorthWestern Energy, the closure will allow crews to replace the bridge across the dam’s forebay.

The bridge needs to be able to support large equipment that will be used to install new generating units in the powerhouse over the next several years.

The gates that control access across the dam will be locked. There will also be signs on the gates with the closure gates.

Hauser Dam is a six-unit hydroelectric plant on the Missouri River about 14 miles northeast of Helena. The units have a total generating capacity of 19 megawatts.
