Searchers find body of drowning victim in Tongue River in Rosebud County

ROSEBUD COUNTY- Searchers have found and identified the body of the man who drowned in the Tongue River this week.

The body of Jason Blankenship, 43, of Otter, Mont., was discovered at 11 a.m. Friday, Rosebud County Sheriff Allen Fulton said in a Facebook post.

Three kayakers, three spotters and two jet boats were on the river searching Friday, he said.

Fulton also thanked Lohof and Hayes Ranches for allowing unrestricted access to the river.


ROSEBUD COUNTY- Authorities are continuing to search for a 43-year-old man who slipped into the Tongue River Wednesday and reportedly drowned.

Rosebud County Sheriff Allen Fulton said a diver was dispatched Thursday in the area of river where the man reportedly fell in but had no luck. A boat with a sonar was on the scene Wednesday to try to identify the location, he said.

Search dogs from the area and local with boats have pitched in to help search for the man, who was swimming with family, Fulton said.

The search will continue Thursday until it’s too dark, he said.

The Rosebud County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page Thursday that it had received a called at 4 p.m. the previous day of a drowning in the Birney area of the Tongue River in Rosebud County.
