BOZEMAN – Bozeman has seen a spike in construction site thefts in recent years.
Police say materials like loose hand tools, air compressors, nail guns, chop saws, trailers and larger pieces of equipment are being stolen. Stolen construction equipment is often sold to area pawn shops and resale sites. Bozeman Police suggest construction workers mark their tools so they’re easier to track down in the event of theft.
“Cataloging your tools, mark something on them that identifies as belonging to you. You can do it either blatantly, we’ve seen it as far as people taking tools and spray painting them a certain color or they’re marking their names or specific serial number. Something they can recognize at a later time,” said Bozeman Police Detective Sgt. Joe Swanson.
If you witness theft at a construction set you are urged to call the Bozeman Police Department.
