Authorities have released the name of the woman who died in a Monday morning two-vehicle crash in Potomac. Missoula County Sheriff Jeremiah Petersen says 20-year-old Ecco I. Kriechbaum, of Helena, died in the crash that happened at 6:45 a.m. on Montana Highway 200. (full update here)

One person died and another was taken to the hospital following a Monday morning head-on crash in the Blackfoot Valley.

The crash happened at approximately 6:45 a.m. in Potomac near mile marker 19 on what the Montana Highway Patrol describes as icy roads.

FATAL POTOMAC CRASH

MHP Captain Shawn Silvan tells MTN that a 20-year-old woman from Helena was east on Highway 200 lost control of her car and crossed into oncoming traffic. Her vehicle was then hit by another car heading in the opposite direction.

Capt. Silvan says the woman — who was not wearing a seatbelt — was killed in the crash. A 46-year-old man from Missoula who was driving the other vehicle was taken to the hospital with what are described as “non-life-threatening injuries."

The name of the victim has not been released.

The Montana Highway Patrol reports a fatal crash happened on Montana Highway 200 in Potomac on Monday morning.

The MHP incident log shows troopers arrived at the scene near mile marker 19 shortly before 7:15 a.m. An alert sent out by Missoula County had advised drivers to avoid the area.
