Heavy Rain & Mountain Snow

Posted
and last updated

This is the calm before the storm. A big spring storm will hit the state with the potential for heavy rain that could cause areas of flooding, and heavy mountain snow that could amount to more than a foot. Thursday and Friday will be fair considering the upcoming storm system. Thursday will be partly cloudy and breezy with just a few isolated thunderstorms across northern Montana and the southern mountains. HIghs will be in the 60s and 70s. Friday will be slightly warmer and a few isolated afternoon thunderstorms will develop over the western mountains. The key to this weekend is "the early bird gets the...sun". Both Saturday and Sunday will have quiet mornings but the afternoons will have scattered strong to severe thunderstorms, especially eastern Montana on Saturday evening. A strong low pressure will move up into Montana on Monday with heavy rain and heavy mountain snow. Flooding is possible as several inches of rain fall in the lower elevations, and several feet of snow could fall in the mountains above 6000'. The storm will slowly move away Monday night. Stay tuned as we get closer to this big system.
