Getting the rain out of the way before the weekend

and last updated

Friday will be a rainy, dreary day for much of the state as low pressure moves right through Montana. With the clouds and rain, temperatures will be well below average with highs in the 40s and 50s. If you get far enough north or south closer to the state's border, there will be less rain and warmer temperatures. Snow will accumulate several inches in the mountains above about 6000', with some snowflakes mixing in down to arounbd 5000'. Rainfall amounts will range from .10" to .50". Some localized higher totals are possible but this is not a huge rainstorm. Low pressure will slowly move out through Friday night into Saturday morning. Saturday will be mostly sunny with warmer temperatures and light wind. Highs will be in the 60s to low 70s. Sunday will be even warmer with highs in the low to mid 70s, but partly cloudy skies will eventually produce isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Monday will be partly cloudy and warm with scattered strong to severe thunderstorms. Highs will reach the 70s and even the 80s out in eastern Montana. Tuesday will have increasing clouds and rain showers as a large storm closes in. A big low pressure will move through Montana on Wednesday and Thursday with heavy rain, heavy high mountain snow, chilly temperatures, and wind. Flooding will be an issue as more than 1-2" of rain could fall. Unfortunately at the moment, Memorial Day weekend looks wet and cool.
Have a great day.
