Vigilante Day Parade postponed indefinitely, MTN wants your past pictures

HELENA — In any other year, people would see parade floats starting to pop up in neighborhoods as high school students prepared for the parade on Friday, but not this year.

Due to covid-19 health concerns, following social distancing guidelines from the Governor and a lack of time to prepare, the Vigilante Day Parade has been indefinitely postponed.

The Helena School District didn’t want to completely rule out it happening at a later date, but said it could only occur if all restrictions are lifted and on a completely voluntary basis.

Statement from the Helena School District:

“Please know that this year’s Vigilante Parade has been postponed indefinitely with no identified timeframe for the rescheduling of this event. As you know, the parade is a large, public gathering that does not align with current public health guidance. Scheduled for Friday, May 1st, lead time to successfully host the parade is simply not available even if guidance were to change in the coming days. For now, the parade will remain postponed indefinitely and May 1st will be changed to a full day of school (remote or otherwise).”

One of the oldest parades in the nation, this year would have been the 96th time the parade ran through the streets of Helena.

Last year’s parade featured 83 floats, and more than one third of Helena area high school students participated.

MTN is looking for your pictures and favorite stories of participating in the Vigilante Parade, be they from 2019 or 1959.

Email you pictures and stories to john.riley@ktvh.com with “VIGILANTE” in the subject line.

Please include the year(or decade) of when the picture was taken or your graduated from high school. Written stories are asked to be kept to a paragraph in length.

By providing a picture you agree that you own the rights and are giving us and our affiliates permission to use the footage on any platform as we see fit.
