HELENA — December 3 is this year’s Giving Tuesday, a day set aside following Black Friday and Cyber Monday to focus specifically on giving to charitable organizations.
Nearly $400 million was raised across the United States on Giving Tuesday in 2018.
In Helena, people donated to more than 70 charitable organizations like The Lewis and Clark Humane Society, Helena Food Share, The Friendship Center and Exploration Works.
Dana Friede with the United Way of the Lewis and Clark Area says area non-profits help fill in vital missing services in the community.
“There are gaps that exist in all kinds of programs and services everywhere,” explained Friede. “So what’s really special about [nonprofits] is they’re able to pick up where other programs end and are able to make headway thanks to community members who are so generous and support all of their local work.”
Friede says if you’re looking for a gift for a hard to buy for family member, consider making a donation to a charity they support.
“Giving is always a great option for someone on your list who might already have everything already,” said Friede. “The great thing is every gift makes a difference. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you give. When you give to a local organization you really are making a difference in your community.”
The United Way of the Lewis and Clark Area partners with more than 30 organizations to take on issues in the community like housing and free tax help resources.
