HELENA – Ahead of Memorial Day, members of the Oro Fino chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution are remembering the women who came before them.

Wednesday, about a dozen volunteers began placing 125 flags in 15 cemeteries around Helena.

They do this each year to remember and mark the graves of DAR members.

Women like Del Harris spent the afternoon walking around Forestvale Cemetery  to remove last years’ flags and place new ones.

DAR State Regent Jane Hamman told MTN News this tradition reflects their commitment to serving others.

“Times are changing, and yet the basic principles of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are enduring forever,” said Hamman. “So we come here to mark the graves and remember that the torch has been passed to us, in this generation.”

This year also marks the 125th anniversary of the Montana State Society of DAR.
