HELENA – Drivers who travel York Road and Lake Helena Drive may see delays starting Thursday morning
Crews will begin building a detour route south of the York Road and Lake Helena Drive intersection on May 16.
The detour is expected to be in place next week and will remain in place throughout construction.
What to expect while the detour is being constructed (through early next week):
- One lane of traffic will remain open during construction, Monday – Friday.
- Traffic will return to two lanes at night and over the weekend.
- Traffic will be directed through the construction zone by flaggers.
- Motorists will drive on gravel surfaces.
- Motorists should expect delays (approx. 10-15 minutes).
- Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday – Friday.
- What to expect once the detour is in place (early next week):
- Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction.
- Motorists will drive on gravel surfaces.
- Traffic will be controlled by stop signs.
- Speed limit will be reduced to 25 MPH.
“The detour route will allow motorists to safely bypass the construction area and should significantly reduce the impact to their commute times,” said MDT Engineering Project Manager Jack Carlson. “The detour route will be a gravel surface so motorists will still need to slow down and plan ahead to allow extra time through the work zone.”
