HELENA – Local Helena business owners Major and Michelle Robinson have been honored as 2019’s “Made in Montana Retailer of the Year.”
Sage and Oats Trading Post opened in June of last year and has already made headlines.
The Robinson’s told MTN their business is about connecting and celebrating different cultures within Montana.
The shelves are stocked with unique goods from Irish soda pop to handmade Native American art, Montana made items and goods from Europe, Scandinavia and Asia.
Michelle Robinson, co-owner, discussed the philosophy behind their business name saying, “Major is the sage being an enrolled Northern Cheyenne. I’m the oats, being Scot-Irish decent and so we decided it was a good way to start looking into different cultures of Montana and celebrating our diversity.”
Sage and Oats is open Tuesday through Friday, from 10-6 p.m. and until 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Major Robinson expressed his gratitude for being nominated for their award.
“It really surprised us, we certainly have a great ambition for this store, and we’re very happy that the Helena community has really embraced Sage and Oats Trading Post,” said Robinson.
Robinson continued, “It surprised us, we’re really happy—it really validates the idea that we had many years ago that there’s so much creativity to offer here in Montana. And we just wanted to be one of those stores that showed the uniqueness of what Montana has to offer.”
