If one of your New Year’s Resolutions is picking up a new hobby or learning something new, perhaps the Lewis and Clark Library can help you get started.

They’ve got lots of books, of course, but the library also has a  Library of Things you can check out, just as you would a book.

Right now, they offer a CPR training kit, ukuleles, six Wi-Fi hotspots and even a sewing machine.

According to the library’s public information officer Patricia Spencer, the Library of Things started about a year ago, with the mobile hotspots. Since then, various groups have donated the other items, and the library is open to growing its Library of Things.

They may even soon get a guitar.

“It’s really cool because of the sense of community,” said Spencer. “And our director likes to think of the library as the community’s living room. This is the place you come to gather for whatever your lifelong learning interest is.”

Checking out something from the Library of Things works just like checking out a book, but loan periods vary. You also need a library card to participate.

If you’d like to see the items online, you can find them in the library’s catalog.

Spencer said if you live in a different part of the county, you can arrange to check out from the Library of Things through the Bookmobile, or pick something up at the nearest rural branch.

According to Spencer, the sewing machine is the newest addition, and she expects it will be very popular.
