HELENA – Hundreds of local families are now ready for holiday meals, thanks to help from Helena Food Share.
Bruce Day, Food Share’s executive director, said they provided 884 customers with full meals Friday, through their annual holiday meal distribution at the Lewis Street Pantry.
“We’ve just had a continuous, steady flow of people in all day long,” he said.
The meals included everything from potatoes and stuffing to fruit and vegetables. They gave out turkeys – some of which they had collected during the annual Turkey Challenge donation drive before Thanksgiving. That event brought in a record 2,883 turkeys this year.
Day thanked the Helena community for all the donations that have made the holiday distribution possible. He said it’s gratifying to be able to provide this assistance – especially this time of year.
“It’s a lot of joy,” he said. “You see that being here today – just the joy in the volunteers who are working here, the joy and the appreciation in the people who are coming and getting food from Helena Food Share.”
About 85 volunteers worked throughout the day Friday to help with the holiday meal distribution.
