Liberty County resident Mary Lincoln, a resident at Wheat Country Estates, celebrated her 107th birthday on Tuesday.

Family, friends, and staff celebrated with her at the assisted living facility in Chester.

Mary’s son Roger says she is well-loved at Wheat Country Estates, where over the years, the staff has come to treat her like family.

Roger says Mary was born on a homestead in a country shack around 12 miles north of Rudyard on November 27th, 1911.

He says after being delivered by her grandmother who was a midwife, she was placed in a cardboard box with blankets on the oven to keep warm.

Mary’s mother was from a region of Russia, and Mary learned to speak German before English.

She graduated high school at the age of 16 and went on to attend college in Illinois, where she earned her degree in home economics.

During the Great Depression, Mary taught in rural country schools in Montana for three years.

Roger says it was around that time she met her husband, Donald; they were married in 1936 and had three children.

He says Mary also taught Sunday School, was an avid gardener and was involved in her community.

Roger noted that Donald Rudolph, one of Mary’s former first-grade students who is now 91 years old, comes to visit her often at Wheat Country Estates.
