Helena Food Share looking for donations for Thanksgiving boxes

Posted

HELENA- Helena Food Share is asking for help filling their pantry this holiday season since Thanksgiving is only three week weeks away as of November 1.

Food Share has set a goal of 2,500 turkeys to be donated to the pantry for their Thanksgiving Meals program.

The meals are given to families in need who face hunger and include a full turkey, vegetables and other food items to make a complete Thanksgiving dinner.

Last year 1,500 households received a Thanksgiving meal from Helena Food Share.

Executive Director Bruce Day said he is thankful for all of the continued support the community has shown and encourages people to think of food share when donating this holiday season.

“A lot of people like to do those kind of in office, in workplace, in home, or in school food drives for Helena Food Share at this time of the year. And it just helps us stock our shelves and be here for the families who need us,” said Day.

Sign up has begun for Thanksgiving Meals at the local food bank distribution locations and will continue through November 19. If people are new customers at Food Share they are asked to bring a photo id and social security card for each member of the household. Identification is used by Food Share volunteers so they can prepare an appropriately sized meal for the household.

Helena Food Share staff have also recently completed first aid and CPR training. The pantry is in need of first aid kits, LED lights and a portable defibrillator now that they’ve completed the training.
