HELENA – After a one year hiatus, Carroll College has brought back their Halloween Trick or Treat event at Guadalupe Hall.
Carroll College had to cancel trick or treating at the dormitory in 2017 due to fire safety concerns.
Maureen Ward, director of community living at the college, has worked with the Helena Fire Department to make sure everything is up to code and the event safe for everyone this year.
“We got a list of things not to do like covering lights or using straw bales,” said Carroll College senior Bailey Osborne.
Carroll staff say Osborne, whose birthday is on October 31, has been a driving force in bringing back the tradition.
“I was a community advisor in this building last year and the girls on my floor where upset when we weren’t able to have the event,” said Osborne, “I made it a personal project of mine to bring this back for the community and the students.”
The students at Carroll have spent more than a month working on decorations and getting the dorm ready for the little ghosts and ghouls.
Osborne said many students who weren’t able to participate last year are also helping out this year.
“Seeing the awe in the kids faces when they see the decorations it almost puts us back into that childlike state,” said Osborne, “And I think it’s a really great opportunity for all the kids here who might be missing their families at home.”
The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday night and parents are asked to park on Benton Avenue or in the P.E. Center parking lot.
Those attending this year’s event can expect guided tours through the dorm hallways with students handing out candy and several fun games will be set up in the common area.
Osborne added that the Guadalupe Hall trick or treating is a great option for families that are looking to avoid the cold.
