HELENA – The majority of the dogs that were surrendered to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society on Aug. 23 will be available for adoption beginning Saturday Sep. 8.
The shelter will have the animals at PetSmart from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. with dog programs coordinators on hand to answer any questions and assist with onsite adoptions.
People are able fill out adoption applications in advance to help with the adoption approval process on Saturday.
The dogs vary in breeds but are all considered small in size, ranging from 3 to 30 pounds.
The animals were voluntarily surrendered to the shelter last month from a home in the Helena North Valley.
Dog Program Coordinator Rebecca Howard says they’re all good dogs that are just in need of a good home.
“I mean these guys are going from a really tough situation and so the quicker we can get them living in a home environment, having a family and living the lives that they’re meant to live the better,” said Howard.
A couple of the animals will not be able to be taken home that after adoption due to still to be spayed or neutered.
On Friday Sep. 14 at 7 p.m. the shelter will be holding their annual Wine for Whiskers Ball at the Delta Marriott Hotel in Helena.
The charity event is sponsored by Alpine Animal Clinic and all proceeds will go directly to the Lewis and Clark Humane Society.
“This fundraiser will be a celebration of the animals saved and human lives enriched by the homeless animals that have been rescued and given a second chance at a forever home.” stated Lewis & Clark Humane Society Executive Director Gina Wiest. “We want this to be a very enjoyable evening tasting fine wine, delicious beer, hors’ doeuvres and dancing to the Mighty Flick while raising funds for the animals that come into our care.”
The event will feature wine and beer tasting, silent auctions and music by the Might Flick.
Humane Society staff are also asking for help fostering young kittens who are too young to be kept at the shelter.
